In a cut throat world of entertainment, modern media & fame, a newly signed music sensation is given a shocking ultimatum, either be true to the woman he love or accept the murky world of fame and all its dubious contingents: career or love? This is his battle.
This is a story that takes us on a roller-coaster ride of a newly signed music sensation from a challenging Palm City to a contingent New York City. It is the story of a young man who from an early life of early turmoil managed to make a success of his life, but who ultimately found that success came with a very heavy price tag.
As a successful artist signed to a major record label he is living the high life. Handsome, intelligent and charming Chrislan is never short of female attention and makes the most of that attention until he meets Laurie. Laurie is a young Canadian medical student studying with Chrislan’s sister and in line for a sponsorship from a major drugs company. But it seems that the sponsorship will come with its own price, more precisely the seedy expectations of the pharmaceutical company’s rep. It is during a meal at which the rep makes his intentions very clear that Laurie and Chrislan first meet although not with the best outcome as Laurie, upset from her meeting, rudely dismisses Chrislan, not realizing who he is.
A meeting later at a charity concert shows Laurie and Chrislan that they are meant to be together and their romance blossoms. This is a story set to the backdrop of New York City and the people who surround Chrislan, His agent Fabrice, his best friend Stephen with whom he owns a modeling agency and Patrick his publicist. Overseeing everything is Martin Erikson the uncompromising record label owner.
Laurie’s friends are worried when she takes up with Chrislan, he has a reputation as a ladies man and she is naive and vulnerable. But their romance seems unstoppable and is going well until an extravagant gesture by Chrislan brings the wrath of the record label down on him. It is decided that, to satisfy his fan base he should be linked to a French movie star. Crushed with Chrislan’s decision to toe the company line Laurie leaves New York to go back to Canada.
Three years pass during which time Chrislan is reunited with his mother, whom he has not seen in many years. She expresses her doubts about the life he is leading and begs him to consider seeking the council of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the faith that she belongs to, to help him.
After a lot of soul searching and with the pain of losing Laurie still haunting him Chrislan makes his decision and asks to be released from his record contract.
Free from the life that he knows Laurie could never accept he goes to Canada to her graduation party to try and win her back with a romantic gesture of a song sung at her celebration dinner. But it is too late. Laurie is engaged and has a baby. As they part for the last time she whispers, “I will always love you” in his ear.
Broken hearted, Chrislan leaves Toronto alone, uncertain of where life will lead him next but knowing that he will have to give his heart time to heal.
With highs and lows, laughter and tears this is a love story that will remain in your memory long after you have read it.
